Town & Country Rules and Course Information
Please print and bring
to the tournament.
Tournament Rules
• The Rules of the USGA govern play.
• All JustGolf Local Rules are in effect.
• Format: Mixed Better Ball
a. Please pick up
if you are out of the hole.
b. Every ball that
will count must be holed. Absolutely no
gimmes.
• Slope and rating: Blue tees: 69.7/121; White tees (seniors):
68.2/117; Green tees (women): 67.2/115
• Scorecards: Sign
and return in person to scorer immediately after your round. Players must
remain in the scoring area until the score is verified.
Local Rules
1. Out of bounds: Defined by white stakes and
split rail fences. Note: There is no free relief from OB fences or markers. You
must take an unplayable and assess yourself a penalty stroke if you choose to
take relief.
2. Environmental hazards: Note signs and
red/green stakes indicating environmental hazard on left of Hole #2. Do not enter or play from this area.
Treat as lateral hazard – drop within two club-lengths of
where your ball crossed the margin and count one penalty stroke.
3. Carts: Cart path only on all Par 3’s and holes 15
and 17. On all other holes, enter the fairway at 90 degrees and keep cart on
fairway.
DO NOT RIDE IN THE ROUGH OR ON
MOUNDS.
4. Course care: Please repair ball marks
and divots and rake traps.
5. Stones in bunkers: Stones in bunkers may be
removed.
6. Pace of play: 15 minutes per hole average, 4
1/2 hours total. Rangers may monitor your play if you fall behind.
7. Cell phones: Turn off. Call pro shop for
emergencies: (856) 769-8333
Course Information
Yardage markers: Fairway posts measured to
center of green:
Yellow (250), Blue (200), White (150), Red (100).
Hole locations: Green flag-Front; White
flag-Middle; Yellow flag-Back
Fescue, tall grass, ornamental grass: Hit a
provisional every time you hit a ball into these problem areas.
Drop areas:
#13: near Green tee box for men; women must re-tee
#14 and #16: Free drop in drop area if tunnel/safety fence
interferes with your swing, stance, or line-of sight.
Driving range is
out of bounds.
Yardage card: Note that the back of your scorecard has detailed pictures of each
hole, including location of hazards and distances.
DO NOT DRIVE OR PARK YOUR CART ON THE HILLS OR IN THE ROUGH.
#1: Hit a
provisional if your ball is in the hills at the left or at the end of the
dogleg. Distance to end of dogleg: Blue-265; White-230; Green-130.
#2: Choose a club
you can hit straight. There is an environmental hazard on the left (do not
enter, treat as a lateral hazard: two club-length relief plus one penalty
stroke) and trouble on the right. Hit a
provisional for any ball hit to the right. Distance to end of fairway
before drop-off into waste bunker: Blue-235; Green-160. You may ground your
club in the waste bunker.
#3: Trouble along
left side all the way to 150 marker. Also OB on left.
Port-a-John on the right as you cross road to get to #4 tee.
#5: Bunker
crossing fairway behind 150 marker is a waste area. You may ground your club. Hit a provisional if your drive goes into
the high grass on the left or into the ornamental grasses crossing the fairway.
#6: Port-a-John
at #6 tee. Drainage ditch to left of path is a lateral hazard.
#7: Aim your tee
shot between the 150 marker and the bunker to the left.
#9: 30 yards past
the 150 marker ground drops down towards the water.
Please use bathroom in building right of the cart path, near
250 marker. You will save time by not having to walk up to the clubhouse and
climb stairs. There is also a Port-a-John to the left of the #10 Gold tee box.
#10: Aim your
drive at the yardage markers. Waste area right of 250 marker.
#12: Lateral
hazard on left is not environmental.
Ignore the sign. You may enter to retrieve or hit a ball. The margin of the
hazard is the cut line.
#13: Men may use
the drop area to the right of the forward tee box. Add one penalty stroke to
your score. Women must re-tee if ball enters water. There is no legal drop area across the water.
Bathrooms on the right just before #14 tee (same building as
on hole 9).
#16: Green has
three tiers.
#18: Distance
from forward tees to lake is 153 yards. Ladies, drive with caution.

Rules Issues
Several rules violations were brought to my attention after
the Ramblewood tournament. Let’s take a look at these rules so that everyone
will understand them and stay out of trouble.
Preferred lies
When preferred lies are in effect, players are permitted to mark, lift, clean, and place the ball
within 12 inches, no closer to the hole. You may place the ball only once. As
soon as you place it, it is in play. If you move it a second time, you have
moved your ball in play (one-stroke penalty), and the ball must be replaced.
If you fail to mark the position of the ball before you lift
it, or you move the ball with your club instead of lifting it, you incur a
one-stroke penalty.
The rule entitles you to mark, lift, clean, and place – that
is exactly how you must proceed if you decide to move your ball.
Holing out
Every JustGolf tournament is a stroke play event. Every ball
that will count towards a player’s or a team’s score must be holed. No putt is
ever to be conceded. If a player fails to hole out, and does not correct the
error before teeing off on the next hole, he is disqualified.
There is no penalty for playing out of turn. If your putt
finishes so close to the hole that you have an easy tap-in, there is no reason
to waste everyone’s time by marking and lifting the ball. Just be careful not
to step in someone else’s line.
Fixing a damaged hole
If there is damage on the edge of the hole that has clearly
been caused by the impact of a ball (a ball mark), the player is entitled to
fix it before putting.
If there is minor damage to the hole, but it still has the
basic appearance of a hole, you may not fix the damage or try to smooth out the
hole before you putt. The penalty for doing so is two strokes under Rule 16-1a.
It is good etiquette to fix the hole, but do not do so until everyone in your
group has completed play.
Touching the line of
putt
You may repair an old hole plug or fix ball marks on the
green. Nothing else! Any other damage should not be repaired until everyone in
the group has finished play of the hole.
If you fix damage on your line of putt that is not an old
hole plug or a ball mark, the penalty is two strokes. Players who are in the
habit of tamping down the grass in front of their ball on their line of putt
are violating the rules and should be assessed a two-stroke penalty.
You are permitted to touch your line of putt to remove loose
impediments, but do so carefully – if you press anything down in the process
the penalty is two strokes.
The USGA has put together a series of short videos
explaining the most common rules – loose impediments, water hazards, movable
and immovable obstructions, nearest point of relief, abnormal ground
conditions, unplayable balls, and playing the course as you find it. These are
excellent videos, and I would highly recommend that everyone find a few minutes
to watch them. Here is the link: http://www.usga-rules.com
