JustGolf Update

Happy New Year! Here’s a preview of the 2013 schedule, plus a reminder about the new tee policy for men and membership information.

2013 Courses and Formats

Four tournaments are separate men’s and women’s competitions consisting of two-man or two-woman teams. The other three are the Mixed Modified Scramble at the Vineyard, the Championships at Seaview, and the Better Ball at Linwood.

• Shore Gate - Wednesday, May 22 - Team Aggregate Stableford
Play your own ball, earn points for net bogeys or better, count both players’ points. Fee: $60 per player.
• Vineyard Golf at Renault - Tuesday, June 18 - Mixed Modified Scramble
Teams consist of one man and one woman. Must use seven drives from each player. Fee: $50 per player.
• Blue Heron Pines - Tuesday, July 9 - Ryder Cup
Six holes of scramble, six holes of better ball, six holes of selected drive/alternate shot. Fee: $55 per player.
• Seaview (Bay Course) - Monday, August 5 - Championships
Individual competition. Trophy awarded to the men’s, women’s, and senior champions. Fee: $60.
• RiverWinds - Monday, August 26 - Modified Scramble
Must use seven drives from each player. Fee: $55 per player.
• Ramblewood - Wednesday, September 18 - Shamble
Each partner hits a tee shot. Select the better drive. Both play in from there, scoring only the better ball. Must use seven drives from each player. Fee: $45 per player.
• Linwood - Tuesday, October 8 - Better Ball
Teams will consist of two men or two women or one man and one woman (your choice). Everyone is competing in one tournament (no separate gender categories). All teams will be “shotgunned” at 10:30. Fee: $60 per player.

New Tee Policy for the Men
Men will have a choice of tees (standard or senior) at all tournaments except at the Championship*. Yardage and rating information will be provided prior to each tournament, and recommendations will be offered regarding tee selection (based on the distance a player customarily hits his drive). Players will be informed prior to each tournament how many net strokes they will lose if they choose to play from the shorter set of tees.

Eligibility for gross prizes, as always, will be limited to those players who choose to play from the standard tees (except in the Championship*). All players will compete for net prizes.

* Championship: Men 70 and older will compete from the senior tees in a Super Senior flight for gross and net prizes.

Membership Applications

2013 membership applications may be sent beginning March 30, after I return from Birmingham, Alabama. My daughter and son-in-law will be singing roles in the same opera for the first time (Queen of the Night for Erica, and Sarastro for Hal, in Mozart’s The Magic Flute).
