Linwood Rules and Course Information

Please read all information carefully, and print a copy for your use at the tournament. Since this is a shotgun, there will be no opportunity to explain all of the rules prior to play. If you have any questions, e-mail or call me now.

Important Information Specific to Linwood
PLAN TO ARRIVE BY 9:30. Put your name on your bag. Leave bag at bag drop. Register at the JustGolf table as soon as you arrive.
• Be at your cart by 10:15.
• Range: Leave your bag on your cart. Take a selection of clubs and walk to the range. You may not take your cart to the range. Range balls are free.
• Siren: If the siren sounds it is mandatory to leave the course immediately.
• Snack shop and restaurant may not be open. Please bring your own snacks
• Cart rules: Carts may be driven anywhere except near tees and greens. Exit fairways at signs. Do not ride over curbs. Stay on cart path from green to tee.
• Bathrooms located in the snack shop (accessible from holes 10, 11, and 13) and in the clubhouse.
• If you pick up you will be WD from the championship, but will continue to compete in the BB. Record an X plus your most likely score (e.g., X-6).
• Environmentally sensitive areas are marked by signs and red lines on holes #7, 8, and 11. DO NOT ENTER TO RETRIEVE OR HIT YOUR BALL. Drop within two club-lengths of margin no closer to hole and add one penalty stroke to your score.
• If your partner arrives late, he may join you between holes.
• Lift, clean, and place within 12” in closely-mown areas (fairways, aprons, dew paths). Subject to change, so listen to the starter’s instructions.

Scorecards
• Record GROSS SCORE for each player. If you pick up, record X plus your most likely score (I must have a number so that I can post your score).
• Write GROSS scores on the first two lines only. You may record your own scores on the bottom two lines of the scorecard (between “Par” and “Silver”).
• Write in pencil only, and use an eraser to make corrections. I will probably not be able to score at the tournament – your scorecard must be legible.
• Please add your scores. You may record your gross total on the scoreboard in pencil; and your better ball net (if you want to calculate it), also in pencil.
• Sign your card. If there are any errors, I will call you. You will not be DQ’d for an incorrect scorecard – we will correct errors on the phone.
DO NOT POST YOUR SCORE. I WILL POST THE SCORES.

Local Rules
Out of bounds: Parking lot area; fence along holes 4, 9, and 11; driving range; curbing around staging area of carts and around 10th green. You must return to where you hit your previous shot and add one penalty stroke to your score.
OB fences: No free relief from OB fence (If unplayable, add a one-stroke penalty and drop within two club-lengths or return to previous spot and hit again.)
Waste bunkers: Defined by green stakes. You may ground your club.
Stones in bunkers: Loose impediments; you may remove any near your ball.
Hazards: defined by outer edge of rocks (the rocks are in the hazard), yellow lines (water hazard), and red lines (lateral water hazard).
All meadows are environmentally sensitive lateral hazards. No play permitted. One-stroke penalty and drop within two club-lengths or replay from original spot.
Please rake bunkers, repair ball marks, and fill divots with sand.

Linwood Tournament Information

Please print for reference at the tournament.

The individual tournament is a gross-only tournament in flights. All players will compete from the same tees (men from the White tees, women from the Green tees). The individual champion will be the man or woman with the lowest score, regardless of flight assignment. All flight winners will receive a prize. I believe the range of handicaps in each flight will make all flights fair and competitive for everyone.

The better ball tournament will be a net tournament.

When you receive the Tournament Handicap Chart, please note that players will not lose points for wins in past tournaments in the individual tournament – flights are based on each player’s full Course Handicap. Points will be deducted from past wins for the better ball tournament only.

Since the championship and the better ball tournaments are being played concurrently, there are a few unusual rules that you will be required to observe:

1. If you should decide to pick up on a hole, you will continue competing in the better ball tournament but you will be withdrawn from the individual championship. Please be sure to write an X and a number if you should pick up. I need the X to know that you have withdrawn from the championship, and the number so I can post your score.

2. The Rules for the individual championship will take precedence. As such, you will be instructed to refrain from asking for or offering advice to your partner. You are permitted to share information about distance and terrain, but you may not advise your partner regarding club selection, how to play a shot, or how to fix a swing flaw.

3. Order of play must be strictly observed, for approach shots to the green and putting. If you are ahead of your partner on the green, you may not putt first to show him the line.

Tournament Rules
THE RULES OF THE UNITED STATES GOLF ASSOCIATION GOVERN PLAY.  All references to the Rules of Golf and Appendix I can be found in the 2012 - 2015 Rules of Golf.
ALL JUSTGOLF LOCAL RULES ARE IN EFFECT. Refer to website: http://justgolftournaments.blogspot.com/2012/05/local-rules.html
FORMAT: 18-hole Individual Stroke Play. 18-hole Better Ball.
PRIZES: Gross prizes awarded by flight in the championship. Trophy awarded to Women’s and Men’s champions. Net prizes awarded in the Better Ball.
SLOPE AND RATING: White (men): 67.5/129; Red (women): 66.4/114.
YARDAGE: White: 6,019; Red: 4670
YARDAGE MARKERS: Red, White, and Blue raised disks in the middle of the fairway; sprinkler heads. Distance measured to the center of the green.
HOLE LOCATION: Red, White, Yellow flags
CELL PHONES: Use prohibited except for emergencies. Silence phones.
CADDIES: No caddies are permitted.
OBSTRUCTIONS: Paved or gravel cart paths are immovable obstructions and relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 24-2b (stance plus 1 club-length at nearest point of relief, no closer to hole). Play ball as it lies on all soft cart paths.
STONES IN BUNKERS: Movable obstructions; they may be removed if they interfere with your swing (Appendix I, Part A, Local Rule #3f).
OUT OF BOUNDS: Parking lot area; fence along holes 4, 9, and 11; driving range; curbing around staging area of carts and around 10th green.
PLAY THE BALL DOWN EVERYWHERE.
LOST BALL: You are only permitted to search for a lost ball for 5 minutes. Once 5 minutes have passed, you must add a 1-stroke penalty to your score and hit a ball from the spot where you hit your previous shot. If your ball is found after the 5-minute time allowed for search has expired, you may not play that ball – it is a lost ball.
DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES: Devices that measure distance only are permitted. The penalty for taking devices onto the course that measure other conditions (wind, gradient, etc.), regardless of whether those functions are used, is disqualification (Rule 14-3).
DOUBT AS TO PROCEDURE: If you are unsure how to proceed, you may complete the hole with two balls under Rule 3-3.
WATER HAZARDS: If marked by stakes only, the margin is defined by the nearest outside points of the stakes at ground level. If marked by stakes and lines, the stakes identify the hazard and the lines define the hazard margin. If any part of the ball touches the line, the ball is in the hazard. Some hazards are defined by rocks.
MULCHED AREAS (FLOWER BEDS, ETC.) AND STAKED YOUNG TREES: Mandatory relief for stance and swing. Find the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole and drop one club-length away from that point.
EMBEDDED BALL: Free relief through the green (fairways and rough). Lift, clean, and drop as near as possible to where the ball lay, no closer to the hole.
SCORECARDS: Must be returned in person to the official scorer immediately following conclusion of the round. All four players must be present. Players must remain in the designated scoring area until the official has accepted their cards. (If no official is present, make sure your scorecard is LEGIBLE and leave it at the scorer’s table.)
PLAY-OFF: There will be a three-hole play-off at the conclusion of play for ties for the women’s and men’s champions. Remain at the scorer’s table until it is known whether you will be competing in a play-off.

Additional Information
Practice area: Putting green, driving range (complimentary balls). Do not drive your cart to the range.
Check-in: Check in with the JustGolf registrar as soon as you arrive. Arrive at the staging area by 10:15.

Course care:  Repair ball marks, replace divots, and rake bunkers.
Pace of play: Make every effort to complete each nine in two hours.
Do not post your scores: They will be posted by the tournament director.
The competitor should verify the score after each hole and settle any doubtful points with the official scorer either at the scoring table (if an official is there) or via phone or e-mail by Friday night at 8 p.m.
