A few comments…

The first season of JustGolf is over, and I’d like to share some information and observations.

JustGolf had 70 members in its first year. Players ranged in age from 26 to 83. The handicaps ranged from scratch to 22, with 23 men between 0 and 10, 30 men between 11 and 15, 8 men between 16 and 19, and 10 men between 20 and 22.

The total number of different men winning Gross prizes was 16 (18 if you add in the two men who would have won Gross prizes if they hadn’t placed higher in the Net). There were 38 different players who won Net prizes. Over three quarters of JustGolf members received at least one prize.

79 prizes were awarded: 24 Gross (30%) and 55 Net (70%). This distribution met my pre-season promise to award approximately 30% of the prizes to Gross winners and 70% to Net winners.

The total amount of prize money distributed was $2,665: $860 to Gross and $1,805 to Net. The source for the prize money was $10 per player from the tournament fees, plus all membership money not used for operating expenses.

I ran six tournaments with the help of Gail Davies, JustGolf’s tireless and devoted registrar. Both of us served as volunteers, and hope to continue in this vein for as long as feasible.

Seven courses have been selected for next year’s tournaments. If you haven’t seen the list, please visit the website (www.justgolftournaments.blogspot.com). Scroll down and look on the right side for Previous Posts. Click on the arrowhead to the left of October. The first link under October is for the 2012 schedule.

It is likely that I will add a women’s division to JustGolf, so if you know women who enjoy competition, please ask them to get in touch with me, or send me their names and contact information

This year, men who were 70 years or more had the option to play from the Senior tees, where they could compete for Net prizes only. That policy will remain in place for 2012. I am considering adding a requirement that all men whose handicap is 20 or higher play from the Senior tees, and perhaps give men whose handicap falls between 16 and 19 the option to move up to the Senior tees. All of these players would be limited to competing for Net prizes. It is my feeling that men with higher handicaps will enjoy their round more playing from a shorter distance, and it will help with everyone’s pace of play.

Next year’s tournaments will be more fun for everyone with new faces in the mix. If you have friends who might enjoy the JustGolf tournaments, please encourage them to join. I plan to post the membership forms in January, along with the official tournament schedule.

It was a pleasure to work for you gentlemen. I’m looking forward to seeing you again next season.

JustGolf 2012 Tournament Schedule

Good news! I have scheduled seven JustGolf tournaments for 2012. No decisions have been made yet as to what format will be played at each course, but I thought you might like to see where and when you will be competing next year. Feel free to share this with any friends who might be interested in joining JustGolf. It would be great to add a few new faces to our tournaments.
