Seaview Rules and Course Information

Please print and bring to the tournament. You will be asked to initial the registrar’s sheet to confirm that you have read and understood the rules.

THE RULES OF THE UNITED STATES GOLF ASSOCIATION GOVERN PLAY.  All references to the Rules of Golf and Appendix I can be found in the 2012 - 2015 Rules of Golf.
ALL JUSTGOLF LOCAL RULES ARE IN EFFECT.
FORMAT: 18-hole Individual Stroke Play.
PRIZES: Gross prizes awarded by flight. Trophy awarded to Women’s, Men’s, and Men’s Senior champions.
SLOPE AND RATING: Gold (women): 67.9/118; White (men): 68.0/118.
YARDAGE: Gold: 5017; White: 6011
YARDAGE MARKERS: 150-yard posts; sprinkler heads
HOLE LOCATION: Chart on cart.
CELL PHONES: Use prohibited except for emergencies. Silence phones.
CADDIES: No caddies are permitted.
OBSTRUCTIONS: All cart paths are immovable obstructions and relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 24-2b (stance plus 1 club-length at nearest point of relief, no closer to hole).
STONES IN BUNKERS: Movable obstructions; they may be removed if they interfere with your swing (Appendix I, Part B, Local Rule #5).
OUT OF BOUNDS: Defined by white stakes.
PLAY THE BALL DOWN EVERYWHERE.
LOST BALL: You are only permitted to search for a lost ball for 5 minutes. Once 5 minutes have passed, you must add a 1-stroke penalty to your score and hit a ball from the spot where you hit your previous shot. If your ball is found after the 5-minute time allowed for search has expired, you may not play that ball – it is a lost ball. Play a provisional for any ball that may be in the fescue!
WATER IN BUNKER: There is no relief for a ball lying on wet sand. If the ball is lying in water in a hazard, you may drop the ball in the hazard at the nearest point of relief that is no closer to the hole – no penalty. If there is no place to drop the ball that would not be closer to the hole, and you have to take the ball out of the hazard, you may drop it behind the hazard on the line-of-sight to the hole (one-stroke penalty), or hit again from where you played your original shot (one-stroke penalty).
DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES: Devices that measure distance only are permitted. The penalty for taking devices onto the course that measure other conditions (wind, gradient, etc.), regardless of whether those functions are used, is disqualification (Rule 14-3).
PROVISIONAL BALL: Hit a provisional ball any time your ball lands in the fescue. If you do not find the original, you will continue with the provisional (count all strokes plus a one-shot penalty). If you find your original, you must abandon the provisional. If your original is unplayable, under a one-stroke penalty you may drop within two club-lengths no closer to the hole, drop on the line-of-sight to the hole, or hit another ball where you hit your previous shot. There is no option to continue with the provisional if the original is found.
CART ASSIGNMENTS: Players are expected to honor cart assignments. In order for all players to compete in their flights, it was not possible to avoid pairing players from the same course. In most pairings, players from the same course are assigned to ride with a player from a different course.
SCORECARDS: Must be returned in person to the official scorer immediately following conclusion of the round.  To avoid possible penalty, players should remain in the designated scoring area until the official has accepted their cards.
DOUBT AS TO PROCEDURE: If you are unsure how to proceed, you may complete the hole with two balls under Rule 3-3.
PLAY-OFF: There will be a play-off at the conclusion of play for ties for the women’s and men’s champions. Remain at the scorer’s table until it is known whether you will be competing in a play-off.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Practice area: Putting green in front of clubhouse. Driving range ¼ mile away. Tokens for driving range may be purchased in clubhouse or at range (exact change required at range: $5 plus $1, paper money only).
Check-in: Please check in with the JustGolf registrar as soon as you arrive. Walk to the first tee 15 minutes before your tee time. A club employee will drive your clubs to the first tee.
Mark balls: Mark every ball you will use during your round. If you forget, the starter will have markers you may borrow.
Course care:  Please repair ball marks and rake traps. Replace divots if large; otherwise use divot mix on cart.
Pace of play: 15 minutes per hole.
Do not post your scores: They will be posted by the tournament director.

The competitor should verify the score after each hole and settle any doubtful points with the official scorer prior to signing the scorecard.

COURSE INFORMATION
• Hit a provisional for EVERY BALL that goes into the fescue (aka “native grass”). The “Native Grass Rule” on the back of your scorecard is NOT in effect.
• Bathrooms are accessible from Holes #4, 8, and 12.
• You might want to carry bug spray in your bag.
• Numerous water coolers; beverage cart; snack shop next to pro shop (not accessible during your round).
• The flagsticks will work with Laser Link range finders.

The course, for the most part, is right out in front of you. There are very few surprises. Here are a few tips:

#5: Short and narrow.  This is a hole where a straight shot is much more important than a long one. There is a bunker hidden from view from the teeing ground that guards the front of the green.

#8: The fescue along the right side is a lateral hazard.
To get to Hole #9, turn left just before #8 green. Do not play #13 by mistake (the tee behind the green). Check the hole number on the permanent marker.

#10: Dogleg left.

#12: Dogleg right.

#16: A long, narrow bunker runs along the left side of the fescue on the right. This bunker is not visible from the men’s tee.

Vineyard Mixed Scramble Rescheduled

Are you ready for Round 3? I have rescheduled the Vineyard Mixed Modified Scramble for Thursday, October 24. Applications will arrive in your inbox in September. So mark your calendars and offer up some kind words to the sun god.

By the way, there was some confusion about the $10 prize money refund at the Vineyard, so stay with me here and I will explain the JustGolf tournament fees. Using a $50 tournament as an example, you pay a $20 registration fee in advance and $30 at the course. The $20 fee covers $10 for prizes and $10 paid to the course for a portion of the green fee. So while you are paying only $30 at the course, the actual course fee is $40. I pay the additional $10 in the pro shop after everyone has teed off.  The $10 refund at the Vineyard was the money you contributed for prizes – no tournament, no prizes, therefore a refund.

JustGolf is as purely non-profit as an organization can be. The $10 membership fee is used to cover expenses (ink, paper, copies, tournament deposits, etc.). There are no salaries – the starter, registrar, and tournament director are all volunteers. This is a labor of love for us, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Thanks to everyone for waiting patiently (or somewhat patiently) throughout the rain delay and ultimate cancellation.

• Forward tee reduction: Half the difference in the Course Rating (70.2–67.6=2.6/2=1.3 rounded to 1) for men on Green tees
• Tournament CH: Maximum 18 for men, 24 for women
• 35% CH, 15% CH: In a scramble, the player with the lower Course Handicap receives 35% of CH; the player with the higher CH receives 15% of CH.
