JustGolf Update

The JustGolf  2015 tournament schedule is starting to shape up. I have booked Shore Gate  for May 19, the Vineyards  for June 16, Blue Heron Pines  for July 14, and Harbor Pines,  a new addition to JustGolf,  for August 13. It looks like we will be returning to Linwood in September or October – I will know more after Linwood’s Board of Directors meets in mid-December. I plan to book one or two other courses after I hear from Linwood.

Next year will be JustGolf’s  fifth year of existence. I’m wondering whether some of you might have a suggestion or two to improve the organization. If you do, now would be a good time to share those suggestions with me. Just drop me a line in an e-mail.

Best wishes to everyone for a wonderful holiday season. I’ll be back in touch when the tournament schedule is complete.

Regards,
Linda

LINWOOD TIME CHANGE – 1:00 P.M. SHOTGUN

I have rescheduled Thursday's tournament at Linwood for 1:00 p.m. Please plan to arrive around noon, and be at your carts by 12:45.

I discussed the weather conditions with the pro. He assured me that the course can absorb anything short of a monsoon. Assuming the rain stops sometime in the morning, we should be looking at a very playable course in the afternoon.

I will call the pro again in the morning. If I have to reschedule, the information will be posted on the website by 10:00 a.m. Please don’t leave home without first checking the website: http://justgolftournaments.blogspot.com

If you cannot play at the new 1:00 p.m  time, please let me know right now,  via e-mail or phone:

Cell: 609-784-2550
Home: 609-267-8630

Please talk to your partner to make sure he or she received this message.

Linwood Information

I will post the Linwood Handicap Chart, Rules and Course Information, and Pairings over the next few days. Here are a few early bits of information:

• The pro shop has a 50% off sale on all clothing. You might want to arrive early or plan to stay late to do some shopping.

• The range balls are included in your fee. However, you may not drive your cart to the range. Allow yourself enough time to arrive back at your cart by 9:45 for announcements.

• The snack shop will not be open. Bring snacks and drinks with you.

• All JustGolf volunteer workers will be playing. Please total your own better ball gross and net scores and write them in pencil on the scoreboard. Do not ask the Linwood pro to do this for you. If you need to leave right away, leave your scorecard with an employee in the pro shop.

• Make sure your name is on your golf bag. The bag drop is in the front of the clubhouse. An employee will pick up your bag, drive it around back, and load your cart.

• This is a 10:30 a.m. shotgun. There will be no starter to explain the rules to you (don’t all cheer at once). Please read the rules carefully, and bring a copy with you to the tournament.

• The course is in impeccable condition. The greens are running at about 10 on the Stimpmeter.

Wildwood Attendance Concern

Hi everyone,

I’m a little concerned about the low attendance at Wildwood. I must confess that I was disappointed that only 27 people signed up to play in our championship tournament at such a fine golf course.

I am asking for your help to try to understand what I can do differently in the future to attract more players to the championship tournament. I run these tournaments for you. If there is something I can do to encourage more of you to play, I would like to know what that might be.

If you did not compete, please click at the end of each question below and type “yes” or “no.” If you prefer, simply let me know why you couldn’t or didn’t want to compete.

1. I had another commitment on September 30.

2. Wildwood is too far.

3. Wildwood is too difficult.

4. I prefer to play in tournaments where I have a partner.

5. I would play if you offered net prizes.

Wildwood Rules and Course Information

Please read all rules carefully prior to the tournament. Each player will receive a copy of the rules from the starter. You will be asked to confirm that you have read and understood the rules.

THE RULES OF THE UNITED STATES GOLF ASSOCIATION GOVERN PLAY.  All references to the Rules of Golf and Appendix I can be found in the 2012 - 2015 Rules of Golf.
ALL JUSTGOLF LOCAL RULES ARE IN EFFECT. Refer to website: http://justgolftournaments.blogspot.com/2012/05/local-rules.html
FORMAT: 18-hole Individual Stroke Play.
PRIZES: Gross prizes awarded by flight. Trophy awarded to Women’s and Men’s champions, and Women’s and Men’s Senior champions.
SLOPE AND RATING: Blue (men’s championship): 71.5/127;
White (men): 69.4/123; Red (women): 72.7/126.
YARDAGE: Blue: 6287; White: 5829; Red: 5262
YARDAGE MARKERS: 10” disks marking 200, 175, 150, 125, 100, 75 in the middle of the fairway on some holes, down the side on others
HOLE LOCATION: Red/black checkered flag=front; white/black=middle; yellow/black=back
CELL PHONES: Use prohibited except for emergencies. Silence phones.
CADDIES: No caddies are permitted.
OBSTRUCTIONS: Paved or gravel cart paths are immovable obstructions and relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 24-2b (stance plus 1 club-length at nearest point of relief, no closer to hole). Play ball as it lies from all soft cart paths such as the sand path behind 13th green.
STONES IN BUNKERS: Movable obstructions; they may be removed if they interfere with your swing (Appendix I, Part B, Local Rule #5).
OUT OF BOUNDS: Defined by white stakes on holes 2, 8, 12, 13, and 15 (see also Specific Hole Info.)
PLAY THE BALL DOWN EVERYWHERE.
LOST BALL: You are only permitted to search for a lost ball for 5 minutes. Once 5 minutes have passed, you must add a 1-stroke penalty to your score and hit a ball from the spot where you hit your previous shot. If your ball is found after the 5-minute time allowed for search has expired, you may not play that ball – it is a lost ball.
DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES: Devices that measure distance only are permitted. The penalty for taking devices onto the course that measure other conditions (wind, gradient, etc.), regardless of whether those functions are used, is disqualification (Rule 14-3). All carts are supplied with GPS.
DOUBT AS TO PROCEDURE: If you are unsure how to proceed, you may complete the hole with two balls under Rule 3-3.
WATER HAZARDS: If marked by stakes only, the margin is defined by the nearest outside points of the stakes at ground level. If marked by stakes and lines, the stakes identify the hazard and the lines define the hazard margin. If any part of the ball touches the line, the ball is in the hazard.
MULCHED AREAS (FLOWER BEDS, ETC.) AND STAKED YOUNG TREES: Mandatory relief for stance and swing. Find the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole and one club-length away.
EMBEDDED BALL: Free relief through the green (fairways and rough). Lift, clean, and drop as near as possible to where the ball lay, no closer to the hole.
CART ASSIGNMENTS: Players are expected to honor cart assignments. In order for all players to compete in their flights, it was not possible to avoid pairing players from the same course. Players from the same course or who customarily play as partners are assigned to ride with a player from a different course.
SCORECARDS: Must be returned in person to the official scorer immediately following conclusion of the round.  To avoid possible penalty, players should remain in the designated scoring area until the official has accepted their cards.
PLAY-OFF: There will be a three-hole play-off at the conclusion of play for ties for the women’s and men’s champions. Remain at the scorer’s table until it is known whether you will be competing in a play-off.
GROUND UNDER REPAIR: All tree stumps are GUR. Free relief: drop ball, stance plus one club-length, no closer to hole [Rule 25-1b (i)].
