Men’s Shamble/Women’s Shamble– Ramblewood Country Club – Wednesday, September 18
What is a shamble?
Both players hit a tee shot on each
hole. Choose the better drive. Both players complete the hole from that spot,
each playing his own ball. Two scores for each hole. The better score on each
hole will count, similar to a better ball format. Must use at least seven
drives from each player.
(You
may sign up without a partner, and I will try to find one for you.)

MEN’S TEES–ALL MEN WILL PLAY FROM THE WHITE TEES. The senior tees at Ramblewood
are on the women’s tee boxes, making the yardage too short for a men’s
competition. I plan to move the tees up on several long holes.
Total cost: $45 per player. You will pay $25 per player at the course and
you will mail $20 per player in advance. Please mail one check for $40,
together with this application, payable to:

RiverWinds Rules and Course Information
Please print and bring to the tournament.
SCRAMBLE RULES
1. You must use 7
tee shots from each player (par 3 holes included).
2. Each player tees
off on each hole. Select one tee shot and both players play their second shots
from that spot, and so on, until the ball is holed. Once the ball is holed, the
score for that hole is final.
3. Once you select
the shot to be used, place a marker on the ground. The next shot by both
players must be hit from within 12 inches of that marker, no closer to the
hole. You may not use the 12 inches to improve your condition. Once the ball is
on the green, both players must putt from the exact same spot.
4. Record one score
for each hole.
5. There are no
“gimmies;” hole every ball.
• Start your trip to
the first tee at least 15 minutes before your tee time, earlier if you want to
use the practice putting green and chipping area located near the first tee.
• Return
completed scorecard in person to the official scorer at the 18th
green.
• No restaurant or
snack bar at course. Roving cart with hot dogs, peanut butter sandwiches, and
drinks. Dunkin’ Donuts and Wawa nearby.
LOCAL RULES
• Replace large
divots; use sand bottles for divot repair.
• If dry
conditions, carts may ride on fairways. Do not ride in rough or on
mounds.
• Environmentally
Sensitive areas are restricted. Abandon ball; play under water hazard rule.
COURSE INFORMATION
• Hit a provisional for any ball hit into the fescue
or high grass.
• Small flag on flagstick indicates hole location:
high is back, low is front.
• The only “bathroom” is a portable accessible from 1st
tee and 9th green.
#1: Drop area for tee shots that do not carry the
hazard is located at the green sign over hazard on the right. The carry across
the hazard is approximately 160 yards from the front of the teeing ground.
#2: Hidden
bunker in front of left half of green.
#3: Note OB fence on right side.
#4: Dogleg right. Wooded area on right side is a
lateral hazard.
#5: No drop area. Tee shots from the White tees must
be replayed (1 stroke penalty) if they do not carry the hazard. Lateral hazard
on left 200 yards from White tee. Optimum tee shot from Gold tees is 170 yards. There is a large
bunker crossing the fairway at the 150-yard marker that you will want to avoid.
#6: Slight dogleg left.
#9: Environmental
hazard begins 135 yards before the green. Entry is prohibited. Drop behind
hazard and add one penalty stroke.
#10: Distance from the 100-yard marker to the end of
the fairway, short of the burn, is 57 yards.
#11: There is a hazard that crosses the fairway 231
yards from the White tees, 193 yards from the Gold tees. Distance from 150 yard
marker to end of fairway is 25 yards. The reeds along the left side are a
lateral hazard. You may drop (one stroke penalty) on the other side of the cart
path.
#14: Lateral
hazard on right is the Delaware River.
#16: Hidden fairway bunker 255 yards from the White
tees, 180 yards from the Gold tees. Look for view of Philadelphia skyline.
#17: You may use the drop area near the green or
re-tee if your ball is in the hazard. One stroke penalty.
#18: OB on the right – note white stakes.

Important Notice about RiverWinds Tees
As I mentioned on the RiverWinds application, men on the
senior tees will lose 7 strokes. However, this is a scramble, and the handicap
allowance is 35% of the lower handicap and 15% of the higher handicap. As such,
the actual stroke loss from the senior tees will be approximately 3 shots if
you are the lower handicap player and approximately 2 shots if you are the
higher handicap player. Please remember that teams with one player competing from the senior
tees are eligible for net prizes only.
If you want to change to the senior tees, please reply to
this e-mail right now and tell me
that you want to play from the senior tees.
