Linwood Information

I will post the Linwood Handicap Chart, Rules and Course Information, and Pairings over the next few days. Here are a few early bits of information:

• This is a 10:30 a.m. shotgun. There will be no starter to explain the rules to you (don’t all cheer at once). Please read the rules carefully, and bring a copy with you to the tournament. You must be at your cart by 10:15.

• Make sure your name is on your golf bag. The bag drop is in the front of the clubhouse. An employee will pick up your bag, drive it around back, and load your cart. The JustGolf registration table will be around back.

• The range balls are included in your fee. However, you may not drive your cart to the range. Allow yourself enough time to arrive back at your cart by 10:15 for announcements.

• The snack shop will not be open. Bring snacks and drinks with you.

• Since this is a shotgun, and Stableford scoring is time-consuming, I will not do any scoring at Linwood. Please write legibly, and use an eraser to make corrections (do not write one number over another – it’s close to impossible for me to figure out which number is official). Please total the gross score for the front and back nines for each player. You are not responsible for the accuracy of the totals, but it helps me confirm that I have read your hole-by-hole scores correctly.

• Record each player’s gross score on the official scorecard – nothing else! I will need the other lines for Stableford scoring. Keep your own score on a separate scorecard.

• All JustGolf volunteers are playing in the tournament. If no one is at the scorer’s table, and you must leave right away, make sure both scorecards have two signatures and leave them on the table.

Looking for New Members

Some of you may have noticed a decrease in participation in the JustGolf tournaments this year. Whereas in past years each tournament had between 40 and 60 competitors, this year’s attendance ranged from 20 to 42, averaging 33 per tournament.

While some turnover every year should be expected, in the past we seem to have replaced lost members with new ones. This year, losses far outweighed gains.

It is going to prove difficult to book good courses if I can’t guarantee at least 40 players. So I’m writing to ask your help recruiting new members.

I have ordered business cards for JustGolf. I will distribute them to those of you who are playing at Linwood, and will mail them to anyone else who requests them. I would like you to store the cards in your golf bag, and give them to anyone you play golf with that you feel would enjoy competing in our tournaments. If you are not playing at Linwood, please send me an e-mail to request business cards.

I do not want to disband JustGolf, but we will need more members if we are to remain a viable organization. I appreciate any efforts you make to recruit new members.

Thank you,

Linda

Clearing up a misunderstanding

Towards the bottom of every tournament application, you will notice the following instruction: “Last date to mail application: day, month, date.” This means that I would like you to put the application in the mail no later than the date listed. So, for example, in the Linwood application, which lists Friday, September 25 as the last date to mail the application, you may mail the application as late as Friday, September 25. It must be mailed by the 25th; it does not have to arrive at my doorstep on the 25th.

Something else you should know…
If you miss the deadline, and you want to play, send me an e-mail or make a phone call right away. Most of the time I am able to squeeze in a few late applicants. It never hurts to ask.

In the meantime, special thanks to those of you who mail your applications before the deadline. Early applications make my job that much easier.

Regards,

Linda

Ramblewood Rules and Course Information

Please print for use on the course during the tournament.

Scramble Rules
1. You must use 7 tee shots from each player (Par 3 holes included).
2. Each player tees off on each hole. Select one tee shot and both players play their second shots from that spot, and so on, until the ball is holed. Once the ball is holed, the score for that hole is final.
3. Once you select the shot to be used, place a marker on the ground. The next shot by both players must be hit from within 12 inches of that marker, no closer to the hole. You may not use the 12 inches to improve your condition. Once the ball is on the green, both players must putt from the exact same spot.
4. Record one score for each hole.
5. There are no “gimmies;” hole every ball.
6. Return completed scorecard in person to the official scorer.

ALL JUSTGOLF LOCAL RULES ARE IN EFFECT.
SLOPE AND RATING (Red to Blue): Red: 69.9/119; Gold: 65.4/115;
White/Gold: 69.0/124 ((move up to Gold on #3 and #8 of both nines)
YARDAGE MARKERS: Vertical posts in the center of the fairway are measured to the center of the green: Red=100, White=150, Blue=200
HOLE LOCATION: Red (front), white (middle), and blue (back) flags.
CELL PHONES: Use prohibited except for emergencies. Silence phones.
OBSTRUCTIONS: All cart paths are immovable obstructions and relief may be taken in accordance with Rule 24-2b (stance plus 1 club-length at nearest point of relief, no closer to hole).
STONES IN BUNKERS: Movable obstructions; they may be removed if they interfere with your swing (Appendix I, Part B, Local Rule #5).
OUT OF BOUNDS: Defined by white stakes and fences. See Rule 27. No free relief from OB stakes.
GROUND UNDER REPAIR: If your ball is on your own fairway in an area you feel should have been marked as GUR, with the approval of your fellow competitors you may treat such an area as GUR (no penalty, drop within one club-length at nearest point of relief no closer to hole).

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Practice area: Putting green. Chipping area and driving cage. No driving range.
Check-in: You may carry your clubs in or drive your cart to your car. Register at the table near the putting green. Go to first tee ten minutes before starting time.

Do not post your scores. Scramble scores are not acceptable for posting.

COURSE INFORMATION
• Hit a provisional for any ball that may be lost outside a water hazard or OB.
• Most water hazards and lateral water hazards are not marked. The boundary of each unmarked hazard is determined by where the ground starts to break down to form the hazard.
• All men play from the Gold tees on Holes #3 and #8 on both nines. Note circle on scorecard.

Red Course
Portable bathroom: behind #4 green and to the right past hazard bridge #6.
#1: Water hazard crosses fairway just past 100-yard marker.
#3: All men play from Gold tee.
#5: You may use the Drop area for a ball in the hazard.
#6: Water hazard crosses fairway 190 yards from green. Red/Gold to hazard: 224; White to hazard: 273.
#8: All men play from Gold tee. 180 yards to hazard that crosses fairway; 225 yards to carry hazard. Slight dogleg right; aim tee shot to left side of fairway.

Blue Course
Portable bathroom is located at #4 green and #7 tee.
#2: Lateral hazard behind trees on right. If the hazard is not marked, the boundary is the edge of the green grass.
#3: All men play from Gold tee. To lay up on flat area before ground slopes down to water hazard: 150 yards. There is an interior fence on the left, 50 yards from the green, guarding a lateral hazard. If the ball is not in the hazard, free relief from the fence (nearest point, stance plus one club-length). If the ball is in the hazard, no relief from fence.
#4: Appendix I, Part B, Local Rule #1 in effect: If there is doubt whether the ball is in or is lost in the water hazard, you may play a provisional ball under any of the relief options for a ball in a water hazard (drop behind the hazard on line of sight to the hole or hit again from tee (26-1):
(1) If the original ball is found outside the water hazard, you must abandon the provisional and continue play with the original.
(2) If the original ball is found in the hazard, you have two choices: play the original as it lies, or continue play with the provisional.
(3) If original not found within five minutes, you must continue with prov. ball.
#6: To hidden pond on right: 218/173 yards. Aim your tee shot at the vertical yardage markers. Balls hit too far to the right of the markers may land in the pond. Pond begins just past last tree on right.
#8: All men play from Gold tee. To water hazard: 189 yards.

#9: To carry right bunker: 201/151 yards. OB on left behind trees.
